About Brooklyn Art Library:

The Sketchbook Project is an independent Brooklyn based company that organizes global, collaborative art projects. We have an evolving collection of more than 45,000 artists' books contributed by creative people from 130+ countries. We also operate Brooklyn Art Library, our storefront and exhibition space in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The Sketchbook Project began in 2006 in Atlanta, GA and moved to New York City in 2009. Since then, our small organization has grown into a worldwide community of more than 100,000 artists. The project focuses on the intersection of hands-on art making and new technology to provide community-supported art projects and a global inspiration library.

General Description:

We are seeking an organized and friendly individual to join our team as our Library Manager. This position will run front of house, maintain our collection of sketchbooks, oversee store staff and work closely with Assistant Director to help coordinate and execute mission focused programs, classes and both public and private events. This role is Wed-Sun from 10-6pm with needed flexibility to work evenings for events. Reports directly to the Assistant Director. 


  • Manage collection of 45,000+ sketchbooks 

  • Assist Assistant Director with all in-person educational classes, tours, public and private events

  • Maintain all library operations: responsible for ordering necessary stores supplies, restocking the floor, etc

  • Help to catalog and organize all in coming projects and mail

  • Engage with Brooklyn Art Library customers 

  • Properly open and close Brooklyn Art Library as well as be accountable for store experience and sales during assigned hours

  • Helping ship and answer support emails as needed 

About You:

  • You have a love for all things creative

  • You are extremely enthusiastic

  • You have great communication skills 

  • You have 1-2 years Retail experience

  • You have a flexible schedule and are able to work some nights and all weekends

  • You are a great multi-tasker

  • Friendly! 

  • Good team player 

  • Experience with working on a small team where all hands on deck is needed daily

Experience and Education:

  • Customer service or retail experience required.

  • Some management experience is a plus

  • College degree in similar field
