Brooklyn Art Library's Mini Guides are crowd-sourced by artists from all over the globe. We highlight our artists' work to introduce a "how to" aspect to working in a new medium or genre of art.
'CARTOONING' - MILLIE VON PLATEN - $4
Millie is a twenty-one-year old doodler from Stockholm, Sweden. She likes to make fun of people and things as a hobby and hopes to make a career of it someday. Currently, she cartoons for her campus newspaper at Middle- bury College, where she is studying English Literature and Studio Art. She enjoys nineteenth-century Russian novels and boiled potatoes. One day, sheʼd like to retreat from modern society and live on Easter Island with a stack of blank sketchbooks ready to be doodled in.
'DRAW ANIMALS EATING JUNK FOOD' - DIANA TEETER - $4
Diana Teeter is an artist who lives to fill the world with childlike whimsy. She has an MFA from Pratt and a BFA from The College for Creative Studies in Detroit. She is the author and illustrator of the children's book, The Patchwork Circus.
'DRAW DOGS' - SUE CLANCY - $4
Sue Clancy is a fine artist represented by commercial art galleries. Her art has been in exhibits and featured in public and private collections around the world. She is the artist and author of “Dogs by Sue Clancy” and many other artist books.
'TELL A STORY WITH A PATTERN' - NOTTENE - $4
Nottene, pronounced [nuh-ten-uh], is a studio that produces original hand-drawn wallpaper. Nottene’s work comes from a practice of storytelling through drawing. Their illustrations have graced runways in Paris, appeared in books from Chronicle, and sold as products from Land Of Nod & Brooklyn Industries, among others. They’ve won awards, as well as been profiled in print and web magazines like Cool Hunting, Design Milk, and Metro.
