from 30.00

THIS WEEK! Sign up for the Writing Challenge and be entered to will 3 FREE months of Art Club!

We're calling creatives of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels to explore the relationship between two contrasting, intertwining, and increasingly prevalent ideas: Hope and Fear. In filling one of our special-edition lined sketchbooks, we hope that participants will have a constructive outlet for both of these emotions, and are reminded that their voice matters!

The Writing Challenge will also culminate with our first ever, live-streamed, global read-aloud event, where participants will be invited to share excerpts from their sketchbooks at Brooklyn Art Library.

Plus, $2 from Writing Challenge each registration will be donated to 826 National, a non-profit that offers a variety of inventive programs that provide under-resourced students with opportunities to explore their creativity and improve their writing skills.

What is the Writing Challenge?

In response to the tense climate of our time, The Sketchbook Project is launching a brand new global, crowd-sourced challenge to serve as a constructive outlet and creative call to action. With The Writing Challenge, individuals of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels are invited to fill a lined sketchbook with written work inspired by the relationship between two contrasting, intertwining, and increasingly prevalent ideas: Hope and Fear. From poetry and prose to fiction and memoir, written responses of all forms are welcome as individuals around the globe are encouraged to use this project as a constructive outlet for both of these emotions.

Display Your Work in NY

Our library space in Brooklyn, NY serves as a reading room, gallery space, and extensive database where visitors can connect with a global network of artists.  By focusing on the intersections between art-making, technology, and collaboration, our library has grown to include over 35,000 sketchbooks created around the world.

In joining The Sketchbook Project, you will receive a blank sketchbook to fill with illustration, photography, painting, or your favorite art-making process.  Once complete, your sketchbook will be on view at our library space in Williamsburg, at the heart of Brooklyn's art scene.

Artist Tools

In submitting a sketchbook to The Writing Challenge, you will also gain access to tools and resources designed specifically with artists in mind.  Whether you're a first-time or a full-time artist, as a participant in The Sketchbook Project you can create a personalized artist shop on our website, order wholesale prints of your sketchbook spreads, and join our online database of creatives across the globe.
